Annotation

This paper proposes to elucidate singular epicene pronominal choices in the writing of British and American writers. It is argued that this choice is highly influenced by the semanto-syntactic type of the antecedent and by the social roles traditionally associated with the referent and that American writers are more conservative in their choice.
