This study explores the effects of the social use and the history of Basque acquisition on comprehension and recall of Basque and Castilian versions of a scientific text read by bilingual high school and college students. The findings suggest that both extensive social use and an active history of language acquisition better the level of reading comprehension. However, neither of these factors made the recognition of essential text information easier.
