This study compares classification theories for strategies of language learning. The findings suggest that one should additionally consider approaches: that distinguish language use from language learning strategies; that acknowledge the importance of the learning environment; that modify the prevalent strategy classification theories by reclassifying particular strategies; that make sure that the language skills are obvious in all the strategy items; and that create a task-based strategy inventory.
