This study examines the effect of different listening treatments in English-speaking French learners, that is listening to a French computer-generated account with no annotations available or with written and/or pictorial annotations available. The students better remembered word translations when they had selected both written and pictorial annotations while listening and effect sizes were much greater for pictorial than for written annotations.
