This study reviews Arabic reading accuracy and reading comprehension in the light of cross-cultural reading, in order to develop a more comprehensive theory of the reading process. The key variables in explaining this process in Arabic orthography, that is phonology, morphology and sentence context, are presented in two reading models for respectively poor/beginner and skilled Arabic readers.
