Annotation

A report of research on the interaction of subjectivization and clefting in cleft sentences. It supports the assumption that the listener is confused by sentences containing two foci in the form of subjectivization and clefting, and that speakers avoid using sentences containing two foci of attention. Moreover it is found that the focusing effect of subjectivization is stronger in passive than in active sentences.
