Annotation

This study deals with recent picture storybooks for young children that contain characters and narratives that break away from traditional gendered stereotypes. It uses semiotic and critical linguistic analysis to explore the processes and structures where meanings are produced from texts and to describe possible feminist textual semiotic effects. It is demonstrated that even for very young children, textual practices of fiction and narrative act as political-cultural influences on text comprehension
