Annotation

This article examines to what extent Asian adolescent code-switching into Indian English when addressing Anglo teachers and adults, constitutes an act of resistance within a racist society. Detailed interaction analysis shows that this practice provided recipients with an opportunity to display their own political position, and that it could even lead to the consolidation of amicable relations between black and white pupils and between black pupils and teachers.
