Annotation

This paper discusses two Australian examples of English second language assessment, associated respectively with the Notional Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia (NLLIA) and with the Curriculum and Assessment Committee (CURASS), by situating them in the context of state responses to linguistic and cultural diversity. It is shown how differences between them have significant implications for speakers of languages other than English.
