Annotation

This study demonstrates that pre-school children and first and second-graders perform comparably to an adult group what concerns the recognition of differences within spoken pairs of languages, foreign to them, but that the pre-schoolers' performance is significantly worse, when the token consists of any one of three conditions varying speaker or phrase of the same language. It is suggested that a developmental change, occuring with increased language exposure in middle childhood, promotes this analytical aspect of linguistic awareness.
