Annotation
This paper focuses on the 'speaker commitment' feature of English imperatives, which refers to the degree of directive force that the speaker applies toward the addressee carrying out the action. It is argued that the 'command' sense is rather prototypical of than essential to an imperative grammatical structure with a high speaker commitment. This makes an imperative potentially ambiguous with regard to speaker commitment.
