Annotation

This paper provides a relevance-theoretic study of the discourse properties of the English temporal marker 'then', which neutralizes the distinction between terms denoting temporally coinciding and temporally successive events, compared to the Hungarian adverbs 'akkor' (simultaneity) versus 'aztán' (succession) and the Norwegian adverbs 'da' (simultaneity) versus 'så' (succession).
