Annotation
Drawing on data from a Malawian family temporarily residing in the United States, this paper argues that in bilingual conversation, the unmarked choice can be identified through a frequency-based criterion, that not all participants in the same conversation necessarily share the same unmarked choice, and that marked choices in codeswitching conversations become self-presentations.
