Annotation

Drawing on an analysis of early word patterns in three bilingual children, this paper argues that implicit learning enables children to develop considerable distributional knowledge about each of the languages to which they are exposed, even before word production, but that explicit learning and use of particular words and phrases lays the foundation for the induction of more detailed phonological knowledge.
