This paper proposes a new BIA model of bilingual word recognition and discusses its generalizability to different tasks and modalities. This extended model adds phonological and semantic lexical representations to the already available orthographic ones; assigns a different role to language nodes; and distinguishes between the effects of non-linguistic and linguistic contexts.
