Annotation

This study examines whether the different first language backgrounds (i.e., Chinese, Japanese, and Persian) of fluent English second language readers affect their second language word recognition with respect to the effects of word frequency and regularity on word recognition. All the groups identified high-frequency exception words as quickly as regular words, but low-frequency exception words were more difficult to recognize than low-frequency regular words.
