Annotation

This paper explores the relations between communicative competence and five personality dimensions in children learning Dutch as first and second language in The Netherlands. Three basic components are shown to underlie both monolingual and bilingual children's communicative competence, that is organizational, pragmatic and strategic competence. The relations between these components and different personality dimensions revealed different patterns to characteristize first and second language learners.
