Annotation

This variationist analysis of the acquisition of the Hungarian verbal morphological system by adult Chinese immigrants to Budapest, confirms the importance of factors traditionally identified as significant in foreign language acquisition, including frequency, semantic complexity, perceptual salience and morphophonological regularity. The marking of definiteness or indefiniteness of the object on the verb, also appears to be a significant factor. The analysis then addresses the issue of the relative weight of frequency over the other factors.
