Annotation

This paper on frequency effects in language and meaning-based approaches, argues that the latter often provide equally or more satisfying explanations than the former, for example, with regard to word choice in production and ambiguity resolution in comprehension. In the meaning-based approach, the statistical structure of the language can affect the development of linguistic knowledge. It is shown how frequency may be linked to grammaticality judgments of nonnative speakers learning multiple wh-questions.
