Annotation

This paper criticizes Ellis' ungrounded support of the long-discredited claim that language acquisition consists of frequency-based abstraction of input regularities, arguing that Ellis ignores well-known fundamental problems with regard to this approach such as the poverty of the stimulus, instantaneous acquisition, innate knowledge, evidence that even children regularly disregard perceptual input, the compositionality of concepts, and language systematicity.
