This response to Ellis's target article on frequency in language acquisition, processing and use, supports a role for frequency in several domains of second language acquisition, such as interactional input and output and speech processing. The paper also discusses areas where second language acquisition proceeds along its own route and pace regardless of frequency of input, as well as areas with infrequent input but unimpeded acquisition.
