Annotation

This experimental study compares the acquisition of the English to- and for-dative alternation by native English-, Japanese-, and Korean-speaking children. It is examined whether second language children overextend the double-object variant, like first language children, and whether they transfer properties of the first language grammar, like second language adults. Evidence is found of both overgeneralization and first language influence.
