A few years ago, Setton proposed a new ‘cognitive-pragmatic’ approach to understanding simultaneous interpretation which has been acknowledged in several reviews. This paper intends to clear up some misunderstandings, to respond to some stimulating challenges, and to develop some recent ideas on how to operationalise the paradigm.
