Annotation

This paper presents a contextual study of lexical verb use in clinical and experimental medical research articles, which classifies the verbs into seven categories: reporting, observation, relations, defining, cause and effect (C&E), change and growth (C&G), and methods. Differences in the distribution by rhetorical section and in the individual verb functions between the groups are assessed statistically.
