Annotation

This paper examines the metacognitive strategies used by Chinese students of English as a second language (ESL) in their academic reading at Queen's University. The findings picture ESL academic reading as a deliberate, demanding and complex process in which the students were found to draw metacognitive strategies from various sources, whilst sharing the profiles of competent L1 and L2 readers.
