Annotation

This paper resists college placement assessment through computer editing tests or entirely through directed student self-placement, describing an alternative placement process, the Writer's Profile. It is argued that the form of assessment is important, because, as a rhetorical act, assessment affects curriculum, pedagogy, faculty development, and the surrounding community's expectations and perceptions of college writing.
