This paper explores the informational and dialogue-coordinating functions of Japanese echoic responses whilst focusing on their prosodic and temporal features. It is demonstrated that echoic responses with different timings, intonations, pitches, and speeds indicate different degrees of integration of repeated information into prior knowledge, and given this informational function, the prosodic/temporal features also exerts the dialogue-coordinating function of directing the listener in handling the repeated information.
