Annotation

This article examines whether children enter the language-learning situation with a predetermined set of ideas about motion events they want to communicate and whether the expression of these ideas is affected by exposure to a language model within a specific cultural context. These questions are explored by comparing the gestures of deaf Chinese and American children with the speech of hearing children learning Mandarin or English.
