This study supports the hypothesis that children's word retrieval errors are due to general word fragility in their nascent lexicon. More experienced, older word learners are shown to exhibit proportionately fewer errors, but the error source remains the same, which suggests a common processing mechanism underlying productive lexicon acquisition.
