Annotation
This study on metaphor interpretation demonstrates that reference to a conceptual metaphor is not the modal strategy used by people to paraphraze metaphors, rate the similarity between metaphors, or retrieve metaphors from memory. In each of these situations, participants are shown to rely primarily on the stereotypical properties of the vehicle concept. These findings support Glucksberg's (1991) attributive categorization proposal.
