Annotation

This paper provides a quantitative analysis of the metaphorical content of popular children's literature, across historical variables, genre variables, and age of audience variables, to examine (a) whether young children's figurative language comprehension abilities are still underestimated, (b) what contextual backdrop popular children's literature offers for language development, and (c) what the potential opportunity costs are of a literature that might be asynchronous with children's comprehension.
