An attempt to show the fruitfulness, within a generative semantics model (generating 'pragmatico-semantico-syntactic' structures), of Lyons' proposal to make deixis 'the source of reference' by marking definite expressions in deep structure by the symbol D which could then appear as a demonstrative, a personal pronoun or a definite article.
