Annotation
This paper uses some early work of G. Bateson to argue that national stereotypes encode core knowledge for community members, in a form that excludes outsiders, conveyed through a range of metatexts with a broad circulation. Examples refer to Australian texts (popular literature, TV commercials, fiction) and the Australian national stereotype.
