Annotation

The scale principle is introduced to provide a uniform account of the properties of 'any' and quantifying superlatives. F. concludes that 'logical' properties of sentences, such as quantification and scope, are not necessarily presented in a logical form; instead, several factors, some of them pragmatic, may be at work to produce logical effects and scope differences.
