This study of speech deviance and non-deviance on discourse grounds, argues that notions found useful in discourse, ethnographic, pragmatic and literary approaches to language use, can illuminate crucial aspects of communication in language shift contexts. Data are drawn from the Greek-Albanian speech community of modern Greece.
