Annotation
This study compares the speech of mothers and their 12-month-old children across different situational contexts, that is in book reading verus toy play contexts. The findings indicate that context influences both maternal and child expression of pragmatic intents. Children, as young as 12 months old, demonstrated variations in language use, vocabulary, and early syntax, given contextual differences.
