This article examines the role of metaphors in the ideological interpretation of events, distinguishing between two ideal types of motivation for metaphor: correlation and intertextuality. Evidence for the important role of intertextual metaphors in ideological discourse comes from an analysis of Polish newspaper discourse concerning the tenth anniversary of the end of communism.
