This paper proposes an alternative version of Noh's (1988) basic idea of metarepresentational analysis of echo questions, which consists of three claims: echo questions are metarepresentational with rising intonation, with the rise alone conferring the question status; echo questions question the pragmatically enriched attribution; and the focus of metarepresentation is to be distinguished from the rest of the metarepresentation.
