Annotation

This study evaluates E. Hall's 1976 communication context as an explanatory mechanism for interethnic perceptions of subtle racist messages. The findings suggest that Asian Americans are more sensitive to the communication context and consider indirect racist statements as the most harming; European, African, and Hispanic Americans appear to rely more on the actual message, and evaluate direct racist speech as the most disturbing.
