This paper deals with the rapid development and spread of spoken Standard Danish or rigsmål during the 1900s, under the influence of Copenhagen speech, and situates this process in an interplay context between social, age-related, and regional forces. The paper also characterizes the regional Danish language varieties which result from the influence of rigsmål’s on the classical dialects.
