This study examines the role and functions of Malay-English code-switching by key personnel in a courtroom, i. e. lawyers, judges and witnesses. Older participants appear to be more comfortable and proficient in English as English was their medium of instruction, whilst younger participants who had Malay as the medium of instruction, appear to be more comfortable in Malay.
