This study argues that mastery of a third or fourth language influences learners' expectations and perceptions of the role of the teacher in the learning process. Participants included Russian-speaking students in Israel studying English or Hebrew as their third or fourth language and English-speaking students in Ireland studying French, German, or Spanish as their third language.
