Annotation

F. argues that speech act theory is not a rhetoric, nor a psychology, that it does not yield a theory of narrative or style, and that it cannot distinguish between fiction and nonfiction. Yet it can be used to analyze 'Coriolanus', simply because that is essentially a play about speech acts (i.e. another description of speech acts).
