Annotation
This paper examines African-American university students' perceptions and attitudes about Black English Vernacular (BEV). The findings show little unanimity an few trends. Three issues are discussed in detail: problems with the labelling of the code as 'Black' English; the possibility of a socially constructed BEV; and the perception of the code as a rather limited linguistic system.
