This paper sets out to help students and teachers, in particular those in non-English-speaking countries, to better understand some of the problems caused by complex technical scientific writing and to recognize eventual solutions. As examples of somewhat typical technical writing, some articles from recent issues of 'Language' and 'American Anthropologist' are analyzed.
