The results of an empirical study that asked American, British and Polish readers to reconstruct the linear paragraph structure of a news story, demonstrate that people try to organize the content canonically and do some repair work. Evaluating news schemata finally seems to be dictated partly by writing conventions and partly by cultural immersion.
