The results of a discourse analytic study of two strongly constrained, parallel texts, produced by a native English and a native Korean speaker, are discussed in terms of the hypothesis that the degree of speaker or listener responsibility for creating a hierarchical discourse structure may differ crosslinguistically and crossculturally.
