Annotation

This paper discusses the roles of language, learning styles and socio-economic status in the achievement gap of Mexican Americans. An analysis is presented of the debate in the field of bilingual education, involving government and schools. Yet it is concluded that the achievement gap is mainly an economic question, and that the solution of the problem involves greater access to the broader society.
