Annotation

This study describes how a young African American student uses school story writing activities to perform, rather than to communicate. It then discusses various unexamined assumptions of language pedagogies, such as the link between writers' 'audience' and their 'helpers', and the links between literacy pedagogy, oral performance and the analytic, school-valued language.
