It is shown that presuppositions and implications associated with verbs distribute themselves relative to the 'time-axis' of the verb. Presuppositions pertain to the time preceding this time axis, implications to the time following it. The meaning of the verb classes of modality and cognition is analyzed in the light of these findings.
